My Take on Melted Crayon Canvas

10/31/11

Happy Halloween everyone!

A little while ago, I featured a post Melted Crayon Canvas.  I really like the idea, but there were a few things that I wanted to do differently.  So, down to business.

First I purchased my crayons from Micheal's when they had a 50% off coupon for all Crayola products.  I already had my canvases from Micheal's (buy one, get one free) as well as wood, a glue gun, a blow dryer, and an ink pad.

To make mine different, I didn't want to attach the crayons to the canvas like many others had done.  If it was for a play room or a homeschool room, maybe, but I wanted this to look more like paint.  Plus, I didn't want to use all the crayons in the box.  I purchased some of the bigger boxes so that I had more variety and I only selected specific blues, greens, yellows, oranges, and greys.  I then hot glued them to a board that could be set on top of the canvases and drip and could be taken away when finished.  I set my blow dryer on high heat and on low blow for the best effect (a heat gun would've been faster).  It took a lot more time than I would have thought and patience as well, but it turned out great.  And because we are renting and have white walls, I knew that the pictures needed a little more depth and I wanted to mute the color a little.  So, I took a brown ink pad and inked the edges and lightly inked the etire canvas.

My son really like them when we turned them sideways, and said that they look like flames.  I totally agree.  He loves it in his room and I do too!

That is so stinkin' cute! That would be fun to see in girly colors, too!
