Valentine Canisters

2/3/11

I got two of these metal canisters full of cookies for Christmas one year and after the cookies were gone I put the canisters into a cupboard until I could think of something to do with them.  I finally realized they would make the perfect little Valentine containers for my hubby and girls.

You can really put anything and everything in one of these for your kids: pencils, stickers, a comic book, candy, even a rolled up shirt.  I'm going to fill my husbands up with some of these tasty treats.  I figure this will be the perfect tradition to start up each V-day.
If you have some canisters or tins on hand all you'll need to make them over is some scrapbook paper, scissors, Mod Podge, hot glue, ribbon, and any other embellishments you want to use.
First you want to measure you canister to determine how much paper you'll need to cover the exterior.  Then, cut your paper and wrap it around as tight as you can.  Now, take your Mod Podge and glue the paper on top of itself.  Make sure you hold the edge down until it dries.   Then cut out a circle of scrapbook paper for the lid.  (I used hot glue instead of Mod Podge since it sticks to the metal better.)  Finally, give it that personal touch by adding some ribbon, tags, buttons or bows.
