Iron Chef Party

10/17/11

In our church we have a have a group of Young Women and Young Men ranging from ages 12-18.  I am currently one of the leaders in the Young Women's program.  Every week we get together so they can socialize with their peers in a wholesome environment.  This last week another leader, myself, and the 12-14 year olds were in charge.  We decided to do an Iron Chef style activity.

I forgot to take some pictures (I'm such a scatter-brain), but it was a blast.  The girls had fun and the food was sweet.  We decided to do a dessert showdown and we divided the girls into two teams.  Each team was given the same ingredients and tools necessary so that they didn't have to dirty someone else's dishes.  We didn't want it to be to complex so this is what we gave them.

Each team received:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 salt shaker
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 pkg. graham crakers
  • 1 pkg. chocolate chips
  • 1 cinnamon shaker
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cubes of butter
  • 1 pint of milk
  • 1 handmixer
  • 1 mixing spatula
  • 1 serving spatula
  • 2 bowls
  • 1 jelly roll pan
  • 1 8x8 dish (or something similar)
  • 1 set of measuring cups
  • 1 set of measuring spoons
  • 1 can opener
  • 1 can punch/bottle opener (for the sweetened condensed milk)
  • 1 fork
  • 1 butter knife

This activity was so fun.  The leaders were the judges, which means that we couldn't help them at all.  They did it all by themselves and it was fun to see them work and judge the results.  They actually tasted pretty good.  For the winners, they got 100 Grand (the candy bars of course) and the runner up team got Skittles (for their skills)!
